Rabbi Ben Newman Spring Class

God on Trial
Arguing with God in the Jewish Tradition

“Who is like you among the dumb, Adonai? Keeping silence and being still in the face of those who aggrieve us.”-- so wrote the Medieval German Jewish poet Isaac Bar Shalom, taunting God, in an effort to shame God into action. Though this may seem shocking, Jews have been arguing with God for millennia, going all the way back to Abraham. Join Rabbi Ben as he leads us through a series of striking stories, poems, and prayers from Jewish history in which this rich tradition is documented.
