Rabbi Seltzer’s History Class

Jewish History

In fall 2019 we will discuss the last three chapters of Adam Kirsch’s book The People and the Books: 18 Classics of Jewish Literature (W.W. Norton, 2016).  Followed up by presentations by our friend Professor Edward Greenstein apropos of his newly published translation of the biblical book of Job. And then we will have our first of a series of meetings on recent trends in the modernizing of Judaism.  Judaism is the oldest continuous religious tradition in the history of the world (that is, it has maintained crucial features and its core “identity,”) while being recreated as several versions of a modern religion/culture/tradition. We will discuss several of these dimensions.
