KINDERGARTEN

Our kindergarteners are introduced into Jewish education through an exploration of the synagogue itself. They learn what makes this space special, why we gather here, and what we do here.

With that entry point, they learn about Shabbat and all the holidays we celebrate throughout the year. From Rosh Hashanah through Shavuot, beautiful arts and crafts projects are created to reflect each student’s learning. We collect tzedakah each week, read aloud from Jewish storybooks, sing Jewish songs, learn about Israel, and enjoy Torah learning through stories.

The Kindergarten class learns Hebrew Through Movement with our HTM Specialist each week.

SHABBAT DINNER + SERVICE

The Kindergarten class are special guests at our three annual Young Families Shabbat services:

October 17, January 9, and April 10.

GRADE 1

In Grade 1, students explore what makes a Jewish home - what unique objects can be found there, what Jewish rituals are specially done there, and what it means to make one.

Throughout the year, we celebrate Shabbat together in class and expand our knowledge of the Jewish holidays through stories, songs, art and drama. We also collect tzedakah each week and stress the importance of the mitzvah of reaching out to help the larger community.

GRADE 2

Our second graders learn all about the Jewish year: Shabbat and the holidays. How we observe them, why we observe them, and what they mean to us.

In addition, Torah stories are read aloud, discussed, and interpreted through drama and puppetry. The class has an ongoing discussion about the importance of tzedakah, and we read stories, sing songs, and create Jewish art projects throughout the school year.
