Shinshinit
A shinshinit is an Israeli teenager spending a gap year in the US between High School and Military Service, working in the Jewish community. Our shinshinit will help bring Israel to life in our Religious School — through games, food, crafts, and her dynamic personality!
Meet Maya!
Shalom 👋 I'm Maya! I'm 18 years old, and I am a new Shinshinit in Westchester county :) I come from a small town called Mezkeret Batia, between Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. I'm the eldest in a family of five: my beloved parents Keren and Gili; my brother Guy, who just celebrated a bar mitzvah; and my sister Roni who is eight years old. We travel on Saturdays a lot in Israel, from the north to the south, and this is one of my favorite things. I have been a member of a youth movement (Hanoar Haoved Vehalomed) since the age of 9. Over the years I have become a guide in the movement. My hobbies are enjoying the theatre, reading books, meeting friends, baking and cooking for the people I love 🥰 I’m very excited to be with you in Westchester this year, and can’t wait to learn from you about your traditions. I’m proud to be a Shinshinit, and to bring “my Israel” to you.
The Shinshin program is made possible in partnership with the Jewish Agency for Israel.
